Dental Technology
One use of dental technology can be seen in our use a cosmetic laser for power whitening - a LaserSmile™ treatment takes less than one hour to complete. Cosmetic lasers are also used to reshape gums, lengthen crowns, remove lesions and cold sores, and to perform other soft tissue procedures. The laser reduces the overall treatment and recovery time by reducing damage to tissues during surgery. The laser can also be used to desensitize overly sensitive teeth!
Our Cavity Finder laser can actually detect developing tooth decay inside the tooth earlier than X-rays by measuring tooth density and hardness. This allows earlier treatment, which means damage to tooth structures is reduced and reduces the chances for major problems later.
Digital X-rays have benefits both to the patient and the environment. "Old" X-rays used photographic film and high-power settings to expose the film. Film requires chemicals to develop, just like a photograph, and the used chemicals get discharged into the sewer system. Digital X-rays expose the patient to 80% less radiation, can be seen more readily on a video monitor by both patient and doctor, and can be digitally enhanced for better diagnosis. Plus, there are no chemicals required to develop - just a digital scanner.
Primarily used for patient education, this let's the patient see what the doctor and hygienist see in your mouth with magnification. It's also used for documentation to help you secure insurance coverage for the procedures recommended for treatment.
